Canada Photo Safari's premier grizzly viewing & photography adventure
We have combined our two newest and most productive grizzly locations to offer you the ultimate wildlife photography expedition. If you want to see LOTS and LOTS of bears and get REALLY, REALLY CLOSE, this trip is for you! Also consider the stunning mountain scenery, the classic Canadian atmoshere at our wilderness lodges, and the cammaraderie of a small group of like minded travellers, and you have the makings for a trip of a lifetime.
Our top two grizzly locations
We don't like to leave anything to chance or luck. That's why we have scheduled this shoot to not just one but THE TWO BEST grizzly viewing and photography sites in Canada today. AND we are only runnining this shoot at the absolute best time of year for maximum bear concentrations. Both sites involve floating the salmon choked spawning rivers and will provide ample opportunities to shoot with tripods and free hand from a boat as well as set up tripods on the river bank. This shoot is NOT conducted from permanent raised platforms, which greatly reduces your movement and only provides shots at a steep downward angle. On this shoot you will take your photos at eye level to the bears and have the freedom to change to the best angles for light and composition. Our guides have been working with these bears for several years now so that many of them are totally familiar with us and are at complete ease while we approach to incredibly close distances.

Grizzlies converge from hundreds of miles around
In September millions of salmon return to the river or lake of their birthplace to spawn and subsequently die. Grizzlies from hundreds of miles around converge each fall to feed on this bonanza and fatten up for their long winter sleep.
The Two Best Grizzly Sites in Canada
Our first site is located close to the Pacific Ocean in the heart of the spectacular coast mountain range. The salmon spawning river we use is surprisingly small and shallow but gauranteed to be jam-packed with chum, pink, chinook, coho and sockeye salmon. The small size of this stream only makes it that much more condusize to incredibly close, intimate shots of the huge numbers of bears that eat and sleep right along the river banks.
Our second site lies in the heart of British Columbia's interior and supports the largest and most consistent sockeye salmon run in the entire province. Our small, concentrated area lies in the heart of a huge park which protects over 900 square miles of spectacular and pristine interior mountain wilderness. It is managed as a true wilderness park and has very limited access and minimal facilities. Our rustic wilderness lodge is charming and comfortable and inspires a sense of true canadian atmosphere. Gas lights and wood stoves are standard, but we have also arranged (exclusively for Canada Photo Safaris guests) for electrical generator hookup to our cabins for charging batteries and running laptops.

Your safety is our number one concern
Bear viewing is conducted from boats equipped with electric motors that can quietly run and drift the shallow rivers and lakes. We often spot bears at a distance as they feed along the river banks and beaches. A slow, quite approach allows us to slip into close camera range while your guide carefully monitors the bears behavior. Many of these bears are quite familiar with our particular boats and are not disturbed by their presence as long as OUR behavior is consistently maintained. We strive to minimize any pressure or stress for the bears so that you can watch them feed, play and demonstrate a variety of behaviors in a relaxed, undisturbed manner.

A few words from our director about our 2008 season
"Last year was our best grizzly season ever!!! We saw, on average, 10-12 grizzlies a day and on our best day we saw 25 DIFFERENT grizzlies. Many of these same bears allowed us to photograph them several times a day too! And that's not even counting black bears which were also common. We saw a lot of mothers with cubs and big dominate males swimming, chasing fish and play fighting. Quite a few of the grizzlies we were shooting are getting so used to our presence that they allow us to approach to less than 20 yards without showing any concern and just keep eating salmon, sometimes for an hour or more. It was all very exciting and I'm totally stoked to get back out there again this fall."
Paul Stone, Director of Expeditions.
